Founded in 1970, our company have known a constant growth reaching a catalogue of more than 600 features, series and documentaries of all different genres, available for worldwide licensing in all rights and media. We currently represent the best Italian producers and swe have more recently diversified our activity with the production of feature films and the acquisition of international theatrical pictures for domestic distribution.
Founded in 1970 by Michel Freudenstein and Roberto Di Girolamo, Filmexport Group are by far the oldest worldwide distribution company in Italy, and one of the oldest in Europe as well, with 30 years of constant activity. Since 1996, the year Michel Freudenstein retired, the company have been directed by President and CEO Roberto Di Girolamo. Filmexport joined IFTA (Indipendent Film & Television Alliance), formerly known as AFMA, in the early 80's and are also members of UNEFA, the Union of Italian Film and Audiovisual Exporters and EFEA (European Film Export Association). We are located within the multiplex Stardust Village, a movie theatre complex surrounded by a green park with pub, bars and restaurants. Filmexport's main focus is on the worldwide licensing of feature films, series and documentaries for all rights and media. Many among the best independent Italian producers are represented by us in exclusivity. Our library, which is in constant growth, is offering today a broad but well-balanced portfolio of feature films of all genres, TV-movies, series and animation. Our choice of Italian classics is particularly rich, with features by directors such as Dino Risi, Ettore Scola, Luigi Comencini, Marco Ferreri, Sergio Corbucci, Dario Argento, Nanni Moretti, Pupi Avati, Tinto Brass, Massimo Troisi, Salvatore Samperi, Marco Bellocchio and many others, featuring actors like Marcello Mastroianni, Vittorio Gassman, Giancarlo Giannini, Ugo Tognazzi, Monica Vitti, Stefania Sandrelli, Ornella Muti, Sophia Loren, Monica Bellucci to name only a few. These are pictures with an international appeal, that have marked the history of cinema and are still very successful all over the world. In the years since it was founded, Filmexport Group have fulfilled more than 35,000 licence agreements with clients from all over the world. We have had, of course, a long term relationship with many of them, which occasionally has developed into a good friendship. From marketing, to sales, servicing, deliveries and accounting, all aspects of the international program sales are handled by in-house executives, a staff which is considered to be one of the best in the Italian business. We regularly attend major international film and television markets, such as the AFM (American Film Market), Berlin Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, MIPCOM, MIPTV and DISCOP.
Filmexport Group have also enlarged their interests in the area of motion picture business with the production and co-production of Italian and European feature films by their associate company PRODUCTION GROUP, founded in 1982. Lately, we have started, with our associate company PLANET PICTURES , an additional activity in the acquisition of international feature films for domestic theatrical distribution.
In 2006, Filmexport Group themselves have co-produced with Spain the feature film LAS TRECE ROSAS (The Thirteen Roses) directed by Emilio Martínez Lázaro, followed soon after by the co-production with France SANS ETAT D’AME (Destiny Ride) directed by Vincenzo Marano.
