Lazio (Latium) is one of the twenty Italian Regions established by the Constitution in 1948. Lazio is divided into five Provinces: Latina, Frosinone, Rieti, Rome and Viterbo. Rome is the largest and most crowded Province, and includes the Municipality of Rome, the region’s main city and Italy’s capital
Lazio ranks third among Italy’s regions for number of inhabitants (5 million and 300 thousand residents), and ninth in territorial surface (17 thousand square chilometres). Its workforce accounts for 9,7 per cent of country’s total amount. Lazio ranks second in Italy with its over 550 thousand enterprises and produces approximately 10% of Gross National Product.
Lazio is rich in material and human resources – such as for example the audiovisual sector and strong development and investment potentials. In the last years, Lazio’s economic system has been increasingly focused on foreign markets and speeding internationalization processes. A trend strongly supported by the regional government through initiatives aimed at creating new cooperation opportunities with foreign markets and enterprises.
